Yummy Mummy Style Profile: Mikka

How can I possibly write about Yummy Mummy Style without featuring one of my favorite momma pegs Mikka? This woman can do anything— run after a super energetic and totally adorable 2 year old, maintain her personal blog A Mischmasched Life, contribute numerous articles to other style blogs, design for clothing label Faith Hope Love, run several other businesses (her eponymous line of clutches was recently featured in Shopcrazy) and end the day by tucking in her little one into bed and having some quiet time with the hubby. Impossible, I know. But somehow she manages to fit in everything and look fabulous while doing it all.

Read on to learn more about April’s featured momma:

Describe your Style?

Memorable minimalist/preppy meets eclectic.

(necklace by Mikka, I-Candy shirt, Forever 21 skirt, D&G oxfords, clutch by Mikka)

What are your absolute mommy style must-haves?

My Marc by Marc Jacobs diaper bag that looks more like a distressed leather tote than a diaper bag, comfortable wedges, subtly deconstructed shift dresses that allow me to run after a toddler in style.

(wedges form Aldo and Banana Republic, sandals from Substance and Subculture, oxfords from D&G)

What did you wear while you were pregnant?

Just mostly my pre-pregnant clothes still since I’m into roomy (yet sexy) clothes which were very accommodating for a burgeoning belly. When I got a little too big, I resorted to cotton maxi dresses.

What’s a typical day like for you?

When I’m lucky enough to wake up before my daughter, I get to enjoy a good cup of coffee with my husband who’s just on his way out. I then begin to write for the blog sites that I contribute for. With Mischka awake, it get busier (she can consume my whole day, without a sweat). But I have long realized the solution is to take her with me wherever I go. To store visits, meetings with suppliers, fittings, grocery shopping, wherever, whatever. My husband and I catch up over a hearty dinner and a glass of Chardonnay. I end my day by putting my daughter to sleep after a story (or two) and a little prayer.

What do you wear on a typical day?

I often find myself wearing Faith Hope Love. I can sometimes be guilty of head-to-toe fashion faux pas. It just has all the wardrobe essentials my lifestyle needs. From dresses to tops, to skirts, to pants.

(skirt and blouse separates: Faith Hope Love, wedges: Aldo, Onyx necklace from Leagaspi Market. On Mischka- dress: Kids of Bayo, shoes: Pedi Pedi, bangles: Children’s Place)

What do you wear on weekends?

Shorts, dressed up blouses punctuated with punchy accessories.

(silk blouse: Zara, brocade shorts: Plains and Prints, necklaces: Flea Market Finds, handbag: Loewe, sandals: Charles and Keith)

Date night?

When I’m in the mood to dress up, I don a little black dress, but mostly I do separates. A skirt and shirt ensemble accessorized with my baubles is typical.

(stripe shirt: H&M, beaded bubble skirt: United Pop, shoes: substance)

Formal events?

I’m usually in long jersey or silk gowns by Azucar.

What are your absolute kiddie style must-haves?

Boyfriend jeans, leggings, sweet dresses, striped tops. I absolutely adore nautical on kids.

What’s in your bag?

Galaxy Tablet, Canon S9, a little black notebook, mu sunnies, wallet and a little toy of Mischka’s.

Favorite shoes?

Substance cut-out pumps which I have in both black and blue

Favorite bag/s?

Right now its’s this forest green Loewe Napa Aire from my husband. I’m not sure, but I guess they call it Aire because its so light!

Favorite Accessories?

Oh boy, I have a lot! I don’t even know where to begin. I guess those that I have collected through my travels are more special.

(oversized watches from: Prada, Nixon and Michelle. Statement necklaces: Cosmopolitan art deco black, white yellow, Black onyx with deer: Legaspi Market, beaded link necklaces from Cebu, Multi strand beads from Bacolod Lace Center.)

Which wardrobe pieces are currently on heavy rotation?

I must say my striped shirts and chambray button-downs.

What are your favorite shopping haunts for? For Mischka?

The Ramp! I am passionate about Filipino design so I mostly like to wear local labels. But then of course, there are those high-street players that are just so hard to resist.

For Mischka, its The Ramp Kids, Gingersnaps, Cotton On Kids and SM

If you could raid someone’s closet it would have to be…

Jenna Lyons’ for some laid-back-glam-effortlessly-chic fix and Giovanna Battaglia’s for some sensory overload.

Lastly, favorite blogs or websites?

Design Mom, The Glamourai, Jak and Jil, Who What Wear, Style.com and Little Lovely.
